SPYDERCRANE® mini crawler cranes are purpose-built lifting tools for the glazing, steel erection, and construction industries. Manufactured by Japan’s Furukawa UNIC Corporation and distributed by Phoenix-based Smiley Lifting Solutions, SPYDERCRANE® mini cranes offer a compact design for operation in confined areas. Smaller models can travel through a standard-width door in their travel position; select mid-size models fit through a standard double door.

During a business trip to Japan in 1996, Roger Bassetti and Warren Wagoner first encountered a UNIC mini crawler crane. They immediately recognized that this compact lifting technology had strong potential in the North American market. Warren noticed that the crane’s outriggers resembled spider legs, which inspired the idea for a name. The concept of “Spidercrane” was born from that distinctive design. However, the spelling didn’t quite feel right to the two entrepreneurs. During the flight back to the United States, Warren suggested replacing the “i” in Spidercrane with a “y.” With that simple change, the SPYDERCRANE® brand was born.
In 2006, with the help of Tony Smiley of Smiley Lifting Solutions, they made the dream of bringing SPYDERCRANE® branded mini cranes to the US and Canadian markets a reality. At the time, they felt the mini crane line could still be refined for North American jobsites. Wanting to offer SPYDERCRANE® mini cranes with multiple engine options and design upgrades specific to the market, Smiley Lifting Solutions got to work.
In 2013, Smiley Lifting Solutions began a continental expansion that has grown the SPYDERCRANE® product family to include 45 varieties of mini cranes offered through SPYDERCRANE® Direct locations across the United States. As the exclusive North American UNIC SPYDERCRANE® distributor, Smiley Lifting Solutions offers rental, sales, service, parts, and support direct from SPYDERCRANE®.
